NSCDC’s Crackdown on Illegal Firearms and Kidnapping
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended four individuals for alleged involvement in illegal possession of firearms, gunrunning, kidnapping, and banditry. The arrests were executed by the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG’s SIS) as part of ongoing efforts to combat economic sabotage and insecurity across the nation.
The suspects, identified as Umar Ibrahim (35), Nura Abubakar (20), and Mohammed Sule (20), were detained in Ukoso Komva Ward, Wamba Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. Upon interrogation, they claimed that an individual named Ali, currently at large, had deceived them into participating in the sale of firearms. They were apprehended en route to deliver the weapons to a prospective buyer.
Recovered items from the suspects include:
- One AK-47 rifle with 15 live ammunition
- One FN rifle with two live ammunition
- One live cartridge
- Nine locally fabricated pistols
- One bayonet
- Two pairs of Nigerian Forest Security Services uniforms
In a related development, the CG’s SIS arrested Lar Changkur, a volunteer with the Nigerian Forest Security Services in Bauchi State, for alleged involvement in gunrunning. Additionally, a 62-year-old individual named Felix Clerkson was apprehended in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area for job racketeering, with over 120 fake NSCDC appointment letters recovered during the investigation.
