Gunmen Abduct Poly Student Amid Delta Violence
On the evening of Wednesday, February 5, 2025, a tragic incident occurred in Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State. A female Higher National Diploma (HND) student from Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, was abducted by unidentified gunmen along the polytechnic road. The assailants had initially targeted a male individual accompanying the student. When the man managed to escape into nearby bushes, the gunmen seized the opportunity to kidnap the female student.
During the abduction, the gunmen fired shots indiscriminately, resulting in a stray bullet fatally striking a woman who owned a shop under a power line. Additionally, a man sustained a gunshot wound to his leg during the incident.
Following the kidnapping, the perpetrators contacted associates of the abducted student, demanding a ransom of ₦10 million for her release.
The Chairman of the Ogwashi-Uku vigilante group, Mr. Henry Chukwuka, confirmed the incident and noted that the vehicle involved, a Lexus 330, had been recovered and is currently at the Ogwashi-Uku police station. However, the spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe, stated that while there was an attempted kidnapping, he could not confirm the student’s abduction. He mentioned that the police had recovered the abandoned vehicle and were attempting to contact its owner for more information.
