FRSC Reveals Crime Ties to Fake Presidential Plates
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has revealed that most fake number plates used for criminal activities in Nigeria often bear tags associated with the presidency or the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). According to the FRSC, criminals exploit the perceived immunity or authority linked to such tags to evade detection and carry out illegal activities.
This revelation highlights a growing concern about the misuse of number plates in Nigeria, particularly by individuals seeking to impersonate government officials or members of influential organizations. The FRSC emphasized the need for stricter enforcement of regulations governing the issuance and verification of number plates to curb this trend.
The agency has also called on security personnel and the public to be vigilant and report suspicious vehicles with such tags. Efforts are being made to improve the monitoring of number plate issuance and to implement advanced technologies, such as Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) systems, to detect fake plates more effectively.
