60,000 Litres of Stolen Oil Recovered by Troops
In a recent operation, troops from the Nigerian Army’s 6th Division, in collaboration with other security agencies, apprehended 29 individuals suspected of oil theft in the Niger Delta region. The operation also led to the dismantling of 24 illegal refining sites and the recovery of over 60,000 liters of stolen petroleum products.
The raids were conducted across various locations, including Okoloma, Obuzor, Lekuma, Abiama, Asa, and Ukwa in Rivers State. In the Asa area of Obigbo Local Government Area, troops uncovered a hidden reservoir containing over 1,000 liters of stolen oil and 100 sacks filled with approximately 1,500 liters of stolen crude.
Additionally, in the Buguma area of Asari-Toru Local Government Area, an illegal refining site was discovered, equipped with two large pots and two receivers, one of which contained over 9,000 liters of stolen crude. In Delta State, near the Okpai Oluchi community in Ndokwa East Local Government Area, a sting operation resulted in the confiscation of over 70 sacks along the SEEPCO Energy company pipeline, amounting to more than 2,800 liters of stolen products.
These operations underscore the ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Army and associated security agencies to combat illegal oil bunkering and refining activities in the Niger Delta, aiming to protect the nation’s critical economic resources.
