Gunmen Assault Soldiers Protecting Pipeline

On February 10, 2025, unidentified gunmen, suspected to be cultists, attacked soldiers guarding an oil company’s pipeline in Okporowo community, Orlukwor clan, Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State. The assailants opened fire on the soldiers, resulting in injuries; however, no fatalities were reported. Following the attack, the military initiated a significant reinforcement in the area.

Eze Prince Ike Ehie JP, the Eze Igbu Orlukwor II, condemned the assault, emphasizing that it was an affront to constituted authorities for civilians to attack military personnel performing their duties. He urged the government to identify and apprehend the perpetrators while calling on security agencies to act professionally and avoid harassing innocent residents during their operations.

The monarch also highlighted the need for collaboration between the community and security agencies to address the illegal proliferation of arms among youths.
