Former Senate President Wabara Reinstated by PDP NWC
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared the suspension of Senator Adolphus Wabara, the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, by the Abia State chapter as null and void. The NWC emphasized that the suspension is unconstitutional and holds no effect.
According to the PDP’s constitution, specifically Section 57(7), no State Working Committee has the authority to suspend or discipline a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) without consulting the NWC. This section states: “Notwithstanding any other provision relating to discipline, no Executive Committee at any level, except the National Executive Committee, shall entertain any question of discipline as may relate or concern a member of the National Executive Committee, Deputy Governors or members of the National Assembly.”
The NWC condemned the Abia State chapter’s action as reckless and unconstitutional, cautioning those involved to retract their steps. The committee also urged all party leaders, stakeholders, members, and supporters in Abia State, the South East Zone, and across Nigeria to disregard the purported suspension.
Earlier, the Abia State PDP had announced Senator Wabara’s suspension, alleging anti-party activities, including endorsing Governor Alex Otti of the Labour Party for a second term. However, the NWC’s intervention has nullified this suspension, reaffirming that only the NEC holds the power to discipline its members.
