Assault Case: UNIZIK Lecturer Shares His Experience
Dr. Chukwudi Michael Okoye, a lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has provided his account of a recent incident in which he was allegedly assaulted by a female student, identified as Goddy Mbakwe Precious, a third-year student in the Department of History and International Studies.
According to Dr. Okoye, the altercation occurred when he encountered Ms. Mbakwe recording a TikTok video in a corridor of the Faculty of Arts. He stated that he politely said “excuse me” as he passed by, but overheard her making an insulting remark. Concerned about being captured in the video, he requested her to delete it. When she refused, he attempted to confiscate her phone, leading to a physical confrontation during which she allegedly bit him multiple times and tore his clothes.
The incident was captured in a viral video that has since circulated widely on social media. In response, the university administration has initiated an investigation to ascertain the facts and determine appropriate actions. The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has also condemned the incident and called for a thorough and unbiased investigation.
This event has sparked discussions about student conduct and the use of social media within academic environments.
