Over 450 Liberian Officials Suspended for Asset Non-Disclosure
Liberian President Joseph Boakai has suspended 457 government officials, including ministers and ambassadors, for failing to declare their assets as mandated. This action underscores his administration’s commitment to combating corruption and promoting transparency.
The suspended officials have been relieved of their duties for one month without pay or until they submit the required asset declarations. This move aligns with President Boakai’s pledge to enforce accountability within the government.
This suspension follows a directive issued on November 27, 2024, which granted a ten-day grace period for compliance. Notable figures among the suspended include Dr. Al-Hassan Conteh, Liberia’s Ambassador to the United States; Hon. Sheikh Al Moustapha Kouyateh, Ambassador-at-Large; and Christopher Hayes Onanuga, Ambassador-at-Large for Tourism.
The asset declaration mandate is part of Liberia’s efforts to address endemic corruption and enhance public trust in governmental institutions. By enforcing this requirement, the Boakai administration aims to promote transparency and integrity within the public sector.
