Father Films Son’s Unbelievable Encounter with Whale
In a remarkable incident near Punta Arenas, Chile, a father captured on video the moment a humpback whale briefly engulfed his son, Adrián Simancas, during a kayaking trip. Adrián, 24, was paddling in the Strait of Magellan when a humpback whale surfaced beneath him, causing him to be momentarily swallowed before being expelled back into the water. His father, Dell Simancas, recorded the entire episode.
Adrián recounted the experience, stating that he felt a “slimy texture” and saw “dark blue, white” colors as something approached from behind and submerged him. He initially thought he was going to die but resurfaced seconds later, aided by his life jacket.
Despite the harrowing ordeal, Adrián emerged unharmed. Humpback whales are not known to be aggressive toward humans, and such incidents are extremely rare. Experts suggest that the whale likely mistook the kayak for prey and released Adrián upon realizing the mistake.
