Priest's Daring Escape from Kidnappers in Plateau

Abducted Catholic Priest Makes Bold Escape in Plateau

On February 14, 2025, Rev. Fr. Cornelius Manzak Damulak, a Catholic priest from the Diocese of Shendam in Plateau State, Nigeria, escaped from his abductors. He had been kidnapped on February 6, 2025, from his residence in Zuma, Bwari Area Council, Abuja. After his escape, a police patrol team found him wandering along the Pogo-Paiko highway near Minna, Niger State. He was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

This incident underscores the ongoing security challenges faced by clergy in Nigeria. In a related case from February 2024, two Catholic priests, Father Kenneth Kanwa and Father Jude Nwachukwu, were abducted from St. Vincent de Paul Fier Parish in the Diocese of Pankshin, Plateau State. The alleged abductors, who were later discovered to be members of the same parish, demanded a ransom of N25 million. The priests were released after several days, and one of the suspects, Christopher Yaro, was later arrested in Ogun State.
