Photo Gone Wrong: Shark Bites Off Woman’s Hands
On February 7, 2025, a 55-year-old Canadian tourist named Nathalie Ross suffered severe injuries after being attacked by a shark in the shallow waters off Thompson’s Cove Beach in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Ross reportedly attempted to engage with the approximately six-foot-long shark to take a photograph when the animal attacked, resulting in the loss of both her hands and a significant thigh injury. Her husband bravely fought off the shark before she was brought to shore and airlifted to a hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the shark’s species, though reports suggest it may have been a bull or tiger shark. Following the incident, local officials temporarily closed the beach and issued warnings to the public to avoid approaching or feeding marine wildlife.
