Successful Sixth Exchange of Hostages by Hamas and Israel
On Saturday, February 15, 2025, Hamas released three Israeli hostages—Sagui Dekel-Chen, Sasha Troufanov, and Iair Horn—in exchange for 369 Palestinian prisoners held by Israel. This marks the sixth such exchange under the current ceasefire agreement between the two parties.
The released hostages were handed over to the Red Cross and are expected to return to Israel shortly. Meanwhile, the Palestinian prisoners have been received in Ramallah, West Bank, and the Gaza Strip. Some of these prisoners are slated for deportation to Egypt, with potential relocation to countries such as Pakistan, Malaysia, Qatar, and Turkey.
This exchange is part of a broader ceasefire agreement established in January 2025, aiming to facilitate the release of hostages and prisoners while reducing hostilities in the region. Despite the ongoing exchanges, the truce remains fragile, with concerns about potential resumption of conflict if further agreements are not reached.
Notably, U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed support for Israel’s decisions regarding the ceasefire and has indicated backing for any potential resumption of military actions if deemed necessary by Israel.
