Lagos Assembly Faces Lawsuit from Speaker Obasa
Former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has initiated legal proceedings challenging his impeachment, which occurred on January 13, 2025. Obasa filed a lawsuit at the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja, naming the current Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, and the Lagos State House of Assembly as defendants.
He contends that his removal was unconstitutional, asserting that the plenary session during which he was impeached was convened while the Assembly was on recess and without proper authorization. Obasa argues that this procedural lapse renders the impeachment invalid and seeks an order for his immediate reinstatement as Speaker. The case is yet to be assigned to a judge, and no hearing date has been set.
