FUNAAB Professor Killed in Ogun Hit-and-Run Accident
Professor Oladipo Ademuyiwa, a respected scholar in Biochemical Toxicology at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), was tragically killed in a hit-and-run incident on Sunday, February 16, 2025. The accident occurred on the newly rehabilitated Kemta-Somorin Road in Abeokuta, Ogun State, as Professor Ademuyiwa was crossing the street after alighting from a cab. A speeding vehicle struck him and fled the scene, leaving him fatally injured.
In response to this tragic event, Dr. Ayo Ajasa, Chairman of the Ajebo Road Housing Estate Community Development Association, expressed deep concern over the preventable nature of the accident. He highlighted that despite numerous appeals to the Ogun State Government for the installation of speed breakers and other safety measures on the road, no action had been taken. Dr. Ajasa emphasized that while speed bumps were installed on the Ilugun end of the road, similar safety features were neglected in their estate, contributing to repeated accidents and now the loss of an esteemed professor.
The community is urging the government to take immediate action by installing speed breakers, lorry barriers, and clear traffic signage to curb reckless driving and prevent further tragedies. Within 24 hours of Professor Ademuyiwa’s death, another accident was reported on the same road, underscoring the urgent need for enhanced road safety measures.
