
Escape of Suspected Killers in Anambra Shocks Community
Two suspects linked to the murder of Anambra State lawmaker Justice Azuka have escaped from police custody. The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that the suspects fled during an operation aimed at apprehending a receiver of stolen goods associated with their criminal activities.
During this operation, the alleged receiver was arrested, and two suspected stolen vehicles were recovered; however, the two suspects managed to escape. In response, Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu has deployed human, operational, and intelligence assets to ensure their re-arrest and has ordered disciplinary action against any officers found negligent in this matter.
Justice Azuka, representing Onitsha 1 Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, was abducted on December 24, 2024. His decomposing body was discovered on February 6, 2025, near the Second Niger Bridge in Onitsha. Following the discovery, nine suspects were arrested in connection with his murder.
The police have assured the public that efforts are underway to recapture the escaped suspects and bring them to justice. Additionally, any officers found culpable of negligence leading to the escape will face disciplinary measures.
