IVF Clinic Sued by Mother for Alleged Child Misidentification
A 38-year-old woman, Krystena Murray from Savannah, Georgia, is suing Coastal Fertility Specialists after discovering that the clinic implanted the wrong embryo in her during an IVF procedure. She gave birth to a baby boy in December 2023 but immediately noticed that the child had a darker complexion.
DNA testing later confirmed that the baby was not biologically related to her. After five months of caring for the child, she had to relinquish custody to the rightful biological parents.
Murray has filed a lawsuit against the clinic, citing negligence and emotional distress. Coastal Fertility Specialists have acknowledged the mistake, calling it an isolated incident, and have promised to implement new safeguards to prevent similar errors in the future.
This case raises concerns about the need for stricter oversight in fertility treatments to prevent such devastating mix-ups.
