Mele Kyari: Combating Misinformation About NNPC
Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), has announced that legal and security measures have been initiated against individuals disseminating false information about the company’s operations.
This action comes in response to a viral video alleging that petrol purchased from NNPC stations is of inferior quality compared to that from other sources. Kyari described these claims as “an unfortunate drama and bad marketing practice,” emphasizing that all petrol supplied by NNPC meets the required quality standards. He stated, “We will not tolerate deliberate misinformation designed to undermine our operations and mislead Nigerians.”
The NNPC has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the availability of high-quality petroleum products and has cautioned the public to rely on verified information from official channels. The company emphasized that it will take firm legal action against those intentionally spreading falsehoods about its brand and operations.
In support of NNPC’s stance, a coalition of civil society organizations has condemned the spread of misinformation aimed at discrediting the company’s products. They urged citizens to remain vigilant and reject such deceptive practices intended to derail the progress being made in the petroleum sector.
