Defence Chief Responds to Visa Denial with National Pride
General Christopher Musa, Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, has expressed strong disapproval following the denial of visas to him and other senior military officials by the Canadian High Commission. He emphasized that Nigeria, as a sovereign nation, deserves respect and will not tolerate any form of disrespect from foreign entities.
The visa denials have sparked significant reactions from Nigerian officials. Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, described the action as a “serious affront” to the nation’s dignity and called for a thorough investigation into the matter.
Similarly, Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo expressed concern, stating that denying visas to high-ranking officials is disrespectful to the entire country and hinted at possible reciprocal measures.
In response, the Canadian High Commission in Nigeria has refrained from commenting on specific visa applications, citing privacy reasons.
