
Abduction Crisis: LG Secretary and Family Targeted in Niger
In a recent attack in Niger State, suspected bandits abducted the Secretary of Munya Local Government Area, Hon. Usman Daina, along with his wife, Deborah Daina, and three others during a late-night raid on his residence in Sarkin Pawa. The incident occurred around 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2025.
The assailants, reportedly numbering over 100 and riding motorcycles, infiltrated the area near the riverbank in Sarkin Pawa, a location frequently targeted by criminal elements. The abductees include the council secretary, his wife, and three individuals identified as Sati Daina, Gambo Shagari, and Sorro (also known as Snu).
During the attack, one person was killed, though specific details about the victim have not been disclosed.
Notably, Hon. Usman Daina was released early the following morning, around 3:00 a.m., while efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining hostages. The police have not disclosed whether a ransom was paid or provided further details regarding his release.
