Zelensky Open to Resignation for Peace in Ukraine

Ukraine’s President Zelensky: A Willingness to Step Down

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed his willingness to resign if it would secure peace for Ukraine or guarantee the country’s membership in NATO. In a press conference held in Kyiv, Zelensky stated, “If there is peace for Ukraine, if you really need me to leave my post, I am ready… I can exchange it for NATO.”

This announcement comes amid ongoing U.S.-Russia peace talks led by President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, from which Ukraine has been excluded. Zelensky has faced criticism from Trump, who labeled him a “dictator” and blamed him for prolonging the conflict. In response, Zelensky highlighted the challenges of holding elections during wartime and emphasized the importance of Ukraine’s involvement in any peace negotiations.

Additionally, Zelensky has rejected a proposed $500 billion minerals-for-weapons deal with the U.S., arguing that the terms are unfavorable and lack sufficient security guarantees for Ukraine. He insists that any agreement should be fair and beneficial to both nations.

European leaders have shown support for Ukraine, with plans to meet in Kyiv to demonstrate solidarity. Polish Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski stated that Ukraine is “too robust to be abandoned” and emphasized the country’s strong military presence and successful resistance against Russian aggression.
