Nigerian-American Boy Dies Following Online Challenge
A tragic incident has occurred involving 13-year-old Nnamdi Glenn Ohaeri Jr., a Nigerian-American boy from Murrieta, California, who died after allegedly participating in a dangerous social media challenge. On February 3, 2025, his parents found him unresponsive in his bedroom following a family evening spent watching the Grammy Awards.
Despite immediate CPR efforts by his mother and assistance from his father and a neighbor, Nnamdi was pronounced dead. Initially suspected to be a suicide, his parents’ investigation suggested he had engaged in a challenge similar to the “Blackout Challenge,” which involves inducing unconsciousness. Nnamdi did not have social media accounts, and his phone was under strict parental controls, leading his parents to believe he learned about the challenge from classmates.
They hope to raise awareness among other parents about the hidden dangers of social media and peer interactions. A GoFundMe campaign has been established to support the family during this difficult time.
