Cathedral Vigil: Support for Pope Francis Amid Illness

Pope Francis Faces Double Pneumonia; Public Prays

Pope Francis, aged 88, is currently in critical condition at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, battling double pneumonia. He was admitted on February 14 after experiencing breathing difficulties, and his condition has since been complicated by a polymicrobial infection and mild kidney failure. Despite these challenges, the Vatican reports that he remains alert and in good spirits.

In response to his health crisis, hundreds of faithful have gathered at New York City’s St. Patrick’s Cathedral to pray for his recovery. Cardinal Timothy Dolan reassured the congregation that the Pope is “resting comfortably” and highlighted his resilience.

Similar prayer services have been held worldwide, with communities uniting in support of the pontiff. In Phoenix, Arizona, local Catholics have organized gatherings to offer prayers for Pope Francis’s health.

Pope Francis has a history of lung-related health issues, including a previous condition that required partial lung removal. This makes his current battle with double pneumonia particularly concerning. The global Catholic community continues to offer prayers and support during this challenging time.
