
N300 Bet Leads to Fatal Drowning in Bayelsa
A tragic incident occurred on Sunday morning at Ekoli Creek in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, where a 200-level Chemical Engineering student from the Federal University, Otuoke, drowned while attempting to swim across the creek over a ₦300 bet.
The student’s identity has not been disclosed, and his body remains unrecovered. According to witnesses, the student wagered with his peers, each contributing ₦300, to swim across the creek. During the attempt, he submerged and did not resurface.
Efforts to obtain official comments from the university’s Public Relations Officer, Ms. Mercy Ekott, and the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Musa Mohammed, have been unsuccessful, as both stated they had not received information regarding the incident.
