Off-Duty Cop Killed in Front of Girlfriend’s Residence
An off-duty police constable was fatally shot outside his girlfriend’s residence in the eMachobeni area of Inanda, South Africa. The incident occurred while the constable and his girlfriend were standing outside her house.
A VW Polo approached, and two unknown assailants exited the vehicle, opening fire on the constable. The attackers then fled the scene. The constable sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead at the scene. Authorities are currently investigating the motive behind the attack and are seeking information to identify and apprehend the suspects.
This tragic event highlights the dangers faced by law enforcement officers, even when off duty. Similar incidents have occurred globally, underscoring the risks associated with the profession. For instance, in 2022, an off-duty Los Angeles Police Department officer, Fernando Arroyos, was fatally shot during an attempted robbery while house-hunting with his girlfriend.
In another case, off-duty Chicago Police Officer Aréanah M. Preston was fatally shot during an armed robbery outside her home after completing her shift.
