Canadian Petition Seeks to Revoke Musk's Citizenship

Over 250,000 Signatures for Musk Citizenship Petition

A parliamentary petition in Canada has garnered over 250,000 signatures, urging the government to revoke Elon Musk’s Canadian citizenship. Initiated by British Columbia author Qualia Reed and sponsored by New Democratic Party MP Charlie Angus, the petition accuses Musk of engaging in activities contrary to Canada’s national interest, particularly highlighting his collaboration with U.S. President Donald Trump, who has made statements undermining Canadian sovereignty.

Musk, born in South Africa, obtained Canadian citizenship through his mother, Maye Musk, who hails from Saskatchewan. The petition contends that Musk’s role in the Trump administration, especially his efforts to reduce the size of federal agencies, aligns him with a foreign government attempting to erode Canada’s sovereignty.

Despite the significant public support, legal experts suggest that revoking Musk’s citizenship is unlikely, as Canadian law permits such action only in cases of fraud, misrepresentation, or intentional concealment of information during the citizenship application process.

This development occurs amidst escalating tensions between the U.S. and Canada, marked by President Trump’s threats to annex Canada as the 51st state and the imposition of tariffs on Canadian products. These actions have led to public outcry in Canada, including boycotts of American goods and protests at sporting events.

The petition remains open for additional signatures until June 20, after which it will be presented to the House of Commons for consideration.
