World Bank’s $2.2 Billion Loan to Boost Nigeria’s Economy

The World Bank is set to approve a $2.2 billion loan for Nigeria in 2025, aimed at funding six key development projects across various sectors. This initiative follows a $1.57 billion loan approved in 2024 to support Nigeria’s health, education, and sustainable power sectors.

The upcoming $2.2 billion loan will be allocated as follows:

  • Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus Programme: $500 million, with approval expected by March 17, 2025.
  • HOPE for Quality Basic Education for All: $552 million, slated for approval on March 31, 2025.
  • Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria 2.0: $800 million, also expected to be approved on March 31, 2025.
  • Solutions for Internally Displaced and Host Communities Project: $300 million, with approval anticipated on July 15, 2025.
  • Health Security Program: $300 million, expected to be approved by August 19, 2025.
  • Building Resilient Digital Infrastructure for Growth (BRIDGE): $500 million, with approval projected for September 15, 2025.

The BRIDGE initiative and the Health Security Program are currently in the concept review stage, undergoing initial assessment and planning. Meanwhile, the Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria 2.0 and HOPE for Quality Basic Education projects have progressed to the negotiation stage.
