Unconstitutionality of JAMB’s 16-Year Admission Age
The Delta State High Court in Warri declared the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board’s (JAMB) policy of setting a minimum admission age of 16 years for universities as unconstitutional.
The court issued an injunction preventing JAMB and all Nigerian universities from enforcing age-related restrictions on admissions.
This ruling came after a legal challenge by John Aikpokpo-Martins, a former Nigerian Bar Association chairman, who argued that the age requirement discriminated against candidates who met all other admission criteria.
In response, JAMB has filed an appeal against the court’s decision, seeking to uphold its age restriction policy.
