Borno Troops Force Boko Haram Surrender
A Boko Haram fighter recently surrendered to Nigerian troops in Gwoza, Borno State, citing intensified military operations and perceived injustices within the group’s leadership as reasons for his defection. He encouraged other insurgents to lay down their arms, expressing hope that his surrender would motivate others to follow suit. The individual is currently in military custody for profiling and further necessary actions.
This development aligns with ongoing military efforts in the region. Between January 7 and 13, Nigerian troops conducted operations in Borno State, resulting in the deaths of 76 militants from Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). These operations also led to the arrest of 72 suspects and the rescue of eight hostages.
The Nigerian military continues to encourage defections, aiming to weaken insurgent groups and restore stability in the region.
