Orji Uzor Kalu Advocates for Igbo Leadership
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has emphasized the necessity of an Igbo presidency in Nigeria but asserts that this ambition should be pursued after President Bola Tinubu completes two terms in office. Speaking on Channels Television’s “Politics Today,” Kalu stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) currently has only one presidential candidate, underscoring the party’s support for Tinubu’s eight-year tenure.
Kalu highlighted that while the Igbo community must present a candidate acceptable to all Nigerians, the presidency cannot be achieved by any single region alone. He noted that President Tinubu was elected by a broad coalition of Nigerians, not solely by the Yoruba ethnic group.
Regarding Tinubu’s leadership, Kalu praised the President’s efforts in revitalizing the economy, stating that noticeable improvements are already underway. He mentioned that although President Tinubu has not officially declared his intention to run for a second term, the APC has given him a vote of confidence, effectively mandating him to seek re-election.
Kalu’s remarks suggest that discussions about an Igbo presidency should be deferred until after Tinubu’s anticipated two-term presidency, aligning with the APC’s current stance on the 2027 elections.
