Zelensky Open to Negotiating Peace After Trump Meeting
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has described his recent meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in the Oval Office as “regrettable.” He expressed readiness to work under Trump’s leadership to achieve lasting peace in the region.
The meeting, which took place on February 28, 2025, was marked by heightened tensions. President Trump criticized Zelensky for allegedly prolonging the conflict with Russia and demanded a commitment to peace negotiations. This confrontation led to a temporary suspension of U.S. military aid to Ukraine.
In response, Zelensky outlined a peace plan that includes a truce on missiles and drones, the release of prisoners of war, and direct negotiations with Russia. He also proposed an agreement granting the U.S. access to Ukraine’s mineral resources as a gesture of cooperation.
Despite these efforts, U.S. officials remain uncertain about resuming military aid, emphasizing the need for tangible progress in peace talks.
