On January 28, 2025, President Trump signed an executive order titled “Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation,” which seeks to end federal support for medical procedures aimed at altering sex or gender for minors.
This order directs federal agencies to review funding mechanisms to ensure compliance and protect whistleblowers reporting violations.
The executive order has faced legal challenges. A federal judge recently extended a block on the administration’s plan to withdraw funding from institutions providing gender-affirming care to transgender youth, indicating ongoing judicial scrutiny.
