Natasha’s Petition Against Akpabio Dismissed by Senate Committee
The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions has dismissed Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s petition against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, citing procedural violations and legal constraints.
The committee noted that Akpoti-Uduaghan personally signed the petition, which contravenes Senate Order 40(4) stating that no senator may present a petition signed by themselves.
Additionally, the committee highlighted that the allegations are currently under judicial consideration, rendering them sub judice and beyond the Senate’s jurisdiction.
Consequently, the committee declared the petition “dead on arrival” and declined to entertain it.
Akpoti-Uduaghan was absent during the committee’s deliberations.
This development follows a recent altercation between Akpoti-Uduaghan and Akpabio on February 20, 2025, after which she filed a lawsuit seeking to restrain the Senate from initiating disciplinary proceedings against her.
