Fayemi Denies Allegations of Misconduct by Natasha Akpoti

Natasha Akpoti’s Claims: Fayemi Responds to Allegations

Former Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has refuted claims suggesting that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan accused him of sexual harassment. The allegations surfaced during a Senate plenary session on March 5, 2025, when Senator Cyril Fasuyi of Ekiti North purportedly referenced such accusations.

However, Fayemi’s media office, led by Ahmad Sajoh, clarified that this assertion is entirely false. They emphasized that at no point has Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan—or anyone else—accused Dr. Fayemi of any form of sexual misconduct.

Upon reviewing the plenary proceedings, it was evident that Senator Fasuyi did not make allegations of sexual harassment against Dr. Fayemi. Instead, he referenced past disputes between Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan and Dr. Fayemi concerning the Ajaokuta Steel Company during Fayemi’s tenure as Minister of Mines and Steel Development.

The media office expressed concern over the misrepresentation, stating, “We are therefore at a loss as to how such a grave and unfounded assertion was made.”

Dr. Fayemi’s team reiterated his commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity in public service and rejected any attempts to associate his name with baseless allegations.

They also noted that Dr. Fayemi has no interest in being drawn into the ongoing controversy in the Senate, emphasizing that his past engagements with Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan were strictly professional, with any differences arising purely from divergent policy perspectives.
