Farm Estate Kidnapping in Ondo: A Call for Action

In a concerning development, gunmen have abducted a farm estate owner, Mr. Olanrewaju Oyeleye, 50, along with his manager, whose identity has yet to be confirmed. The incident occurred over the weekend on their farm located near the Akure Airport, in the Oba-Ile/Osi axis of Akure North Local Government Area, Ondo State.

Mr. Oyeleye had returned to Nigeria four years ago to invest in mechanized farming.

The abductors have reportedly contacted the family, demanding a ransom of ₦100 million for their release.

The Commander of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, confirmed the incident. He stated that operatives have been deployed to rescue the victims and apprehend the kidnappers.

This incident has heightened tension among residents of Akure North, particularly in the Oba-Ile, Osi, and Eleyewo areas. The region has experienced a surge in kidnapping cases recently, including the abduction of a farm manager and two Industrial Training students in the same vicinity about a month ago.

Farmers in the area have expressed growing concerns over their safety, with some abandoning their farmlands due to the increasing threat of abductions. They have called on security agencies to intensify efforts to curb the rising insecurity affecting their livelihoods.
