Prince Frederik’s Struggle: A Tribute to His Resilience
Prince Frederik of Luxembourg passed away on March 1, 2025, at the age of 22, after a lifelong battle with POLG mitochondrial disease, a rare genetic disorder.
Diagnosed at 14, Frederik established the POLG Foundation to raise awareness and fund research for this condition.
His father, Prince Robert, described him as a “superhero” for his strength and resilience.
POLG mitochondrial disease disrupts cellular energy production, leading to progressive organ failure.
