From APC to SDP: El-Rufai’s Departure Explained
Nasir El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
He submitted his resignation letter to the APC leadership in his ward in Kaduna State, citing a misalignment between his personal values and the current direction of the APC as his primary reason for leaving.
El-Rufai expressed his dissatisfaction with the APC’s leadership style, stating that despite voicing his concerns both publicly and privately about the party’s trajectory in recent years, he has decided to seek another political platform to pursue progressive values.
Looking ahead, El-Rufai has called on opposition leaders and members to join him in the SDP to challenge the APC in upcoming elections, including bye-elections leading up to the 2027 general elections.
