Lagos: APC Chair Candidate Shot and Hacked to Death
Oluwatosin Onamade, a 52-year-old All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship aspirant for the Ijede Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State, was tragically murdered on Saturday, March 8, 2025. He was attacked outside his residence in Ijede, Ikorodu, where assailants shot and hacked him to death.
This incident occurred four years after Onamade survived a previous assassination attempt in 2021 during his campaign for the same chairmanship position. In that earlier attack, his office was vandalized, his brother injured, and a staff member, Mr. Ifeanyi Godfrey, who was also an executive member of his campaign committee, was killed.
The recent murder has raised concerns about political violence in the region. The Lagos State Police Command has acknowledged the incident and initiated an investigation to apprehend those responsible.
Residents of Ijede are on edge following the tragic event, calling for urgent security interventions to prevent further violence. The murder highlights the growing concerns over politically motivated attacks in Nigeria’s electoral process.
As of now, the APC has not released an official statement regarding Onamade’s death.
