Taraba Government Clarifies Deputy Governor's Location

Taraba Officials Address Deputy Governor’s Absence

The Taraba State government has addressed concerns regarding the prolonged absence of Deputy Governor Aminu Alkali, who has been away since November 2024 due to health issues. Commissioner for Information and Reorientation, Zainab Usman, revealed that Alkali suffered a stroke affecting his speech and mobility.

He initially received treatment in Abuja before being transferred to Cairo, Egypt, for further medical care. The Commissioner for Health, Bordiya Buma, who visited Alkali in Egypt, reported that he is recuperating well and is expected to resume his duties upon full recovery.

Addressing legal concerns about Alkali’s extended absence, Usman clarified that the constitutional provision requiring action after a 90-day absence applies only to the governor, not the deputy governor. Therefore, Alkali’s tenure remains at the discretion of Governor Agbu Kefas.

The state government urges residents to empathize with the deputy governor during his recovery and assures the public of his anticipated return to office once he is medically fit.
