Eguavoen: No Interference in Super Eagles’ World Cup Squad
Augustine Eguavoen, Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has refuted claims of influencing the selection of players for the Super Eagles’ upcoming World Cup qualifiers. He emphasized that head coach Eric Chelle had full autonomy in choosing the squad, in line with FIFA regulations that grant coaches final authority over player call-ups.
Recent discussions have centered around Chelle’s decision to exclude certain players, notably Kelechi Iheanacho, from the final 23-man squad. Eguavoen remarked that omitting Iheanacho from a 39-man provisional list could be perceived as unfair, suggesting that inclusion in a smaller squad would be more justifiable.
These developments have sparked debates among fans and analysts, with some speculating about potential external influences on squad selections. However, both Eguavoen and Chelle maintain that the selection process remains independent and free from interference.
