US Control in Gaza: Trump Promises No Palestinian Expulsions
U.S. President Donald Trump has pledged that Palestinians will not be expelled from Gaza under any prospective U.S. administration of the territory. This assurance marks a significant shift from his earlier proposals, which included relocating Gaza’s Palestinian population to neighboring countries and redeveloping the area into a “Riviera of the Middle East.”
During a meeting with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin, Trump stated, “Nobody is expelling any Palestinians from Gaza,” signaling a departure from his previous stance.
This change has been welcomed by various parties. Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem expressed approval, emphasizing the importance of this stance and urging the U.S. to ensure that Israel complies with ceasefire agreements.
Similarly, Egypt appreciated Trump’s decision, highlighting its alignment with efforts to prevent further humanitarian deterioration in Gaza and to support fair and sustainable solutions to the Palestinian issue.
This development follows recent unprecedented direct talks between Hamas leaders and U.S. hostage negotiator Adam Boehler in Qatar, focusing on a phased agreement to end the Israel-Gaza conflict and the release of an American-Israeli dual national held by Hamas. These discussions signify a notable shift in U.S. policy, which has traditionally avoided negotiating with groups labeled as terrorist organizations.
