Shocking Case: Mother Holds Stepson Captive for Two Decades
A 56-year-old woman from Waterbury, Connecticut, Kimberly Sullivan, has been arrested for allegedly holding her 32-year-old stepson captive for over two decades. The stepson, who reportedly endured prolonged abuse, starvation, and severe neglect, set fire to his room on February 17, 2025, in a desperate bid to escape. First responders found him severely emaciated, weighing only 68 pounds.
According to authorities, the victim had been confined since he was approximately 11 years old, deprived of adequate food, water, and medical care. He disclosed that he had not received any medical or dental attention during his captivity and was often forced to drink from the toilet due to limited water access.
Sullivan has been charged with multiple offenses, including first-degree assault, second-degree kidnapping, unlawful restraint, cruelty to persons, and reckless endangerment. She denies the allegations, with her attorney stating that they intend to mount a vigorous defense. Sullivan’s bond has been set at $300,000.
The case has drawn significant attention due to the severity and duration of the alleged abuse, with prosecutors describing the victim’s condition as akin to that of a concentration camp survivor.
