Lagos-Calabar Highway: A Case of Waste and Corruption

Obasanjo Critiques Lagos-Calabar Highway Mismanagement

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has criticized the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, estimating its cost at N15.6 trillion, labeling it as wasteful and corrupt.

He also condemned the construction of the Vice President’s official residence at N21 billion, deeming it a misplaced priority. Obasanjo expressed these views in his book, Nigeria: Past and Future, highlighting concerns over national spending amidst economic challenges.

In response, Works and Housing Minister David Umahi defended the project, stating it is not wasteful or corrupt. Umahi emphasized that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is a vital infrastructure initiative aimed at boosting national development.

He dismissed Obasanjo’s criticisms, asserting that such views are misinformed.
