Tragic Train Accident: Minibus Carrying Children Struck
In a tragic incident in Egypt’s Suez Canal province, a passenger train collided with a minibus carrying children home from nursery, resulting in at least eight fatalities and 12 injuries.
The crash occurred in Ismailia, northern Egypt, when the minibus attempted to cross unauthorized tracks. Victims, including children, were transported to East Qantara Central Hospital. Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly announced compensation of 100,000 Egyptian pounds (approximately $1,970) for each victim’s family.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns about Egypt’s aging and poorly managed railway system. Despite government efforts to overhaul the rail network with an investment of approximately $8.13 billion, train accidents, including recent collisions, continue to occur frequently.
