Justice Served: Caregiver Gets 25 Years for R@pe Case

25-Year Sentence for Caregiver Who R@ped Disabled Patient

A caregiver in Illinois has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for sexually assaulting and impregnating a severely disabled woman under his care. Isaiah Fields, 23, admitted to assaulting a 43-year-old resident at the Marklund Hyde Center near Geneva between August 1 and September 5, 2023. The victim suffers from Rett syndrome, rendering her unable to read, write, talk, stand, or use her hands, with the cognitive abilities of an infant.

The assault came to light in April 2024 when the victim was hospitalized for liver and gallbladder issues, and doctors discovered she was between 31 and 35 weeks pregnant. An emergency Caesarean section was performed, and the baby boy, named R.J., was born but tragically died after 11 weeks in neonatal intensive care.

DNA tests confirmed Fields as the father, leading to his arrest. He pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual assault in January 2025 and was sentenced on March 14, 2025. Fields must serve at least 85% of his sentence before being eligible for parole and will be registered as a sex offender upon release.

During sentencing, Fields apologized, attributing his actions to prior drug use and personal trauma. The prosecutor emphasized Fields’ exploitation of a vulnerable individual, stating that while no sentence can undo the harm caused, the outcome ensures accountability and represents justice for the victim and her community.
