Wike's House Remains Safe, Police Confirm No Attack

Police Report: Wike’s House Not Burnt or Attacked

The Rivers State Police Command has refuted reports claiming that the Port Harcourt residence of Chief Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Governor of Rivers State, was attacked and set ablaze by hoodlums. In a statement issued on March 17, 2025, the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Grace Iringe-Koko, described these reports as false, baseless, and a deliberate attempt by mischief makers to incite unrest and spread fear among residents.

Iringe-Koko emphasized that there is no record of any such incident, and that normalcy prevails across the state. The command urged the public to disregard these unfounded claims, which are intended to cause panic and destabilize the relative peace and security enjoyed by the people of Rivers State.

Similarly, PM News Nigeria conducted an investigation into the alleged arson and confirmed that the reports were fake. The Rivers State Police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed that the reports are “fake news” and “not true.”

However, PM News Nigeria’s investigation also suggests that there are actual plans to attack Wike’s properties in the state. One political actor in Rivers State confirmed that there are intentions to destroy anything connected to Wike, but their leader has called for peace. Another political actor indicated readiness for action but mentioned awaiting orders.
