Three Commissioners Suspended by Governor Nwifuru

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has suspended three commissioners for one month due to absenteeism. The affected officials are:

  • Solomon Azi: Commissioner for Grants and Donor Agencies
  • Victor Chukwu: Commissioner for Environment
  • Ikeuwa Omebe: Commissioner for Rural Development​

The suspension was enacted because these commissioners were absent without permission during the State Executive Council meeting held on Monday, March 17, 2025.

Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Jude Okpor, announced the suspension, stating that the governor directed the affected commissioners to be relieved of all privileges attached to their offices during the suspension period.

Governor Nwifuru emphasized that absenteeism and a lackadaisical attitude to work among public servants would not be tolerated.

Additionally, the governor warned contractors handling government projects to expedite their work in accordance with contractual agreements, indicating that the government would use all legal means to enforce compliance.
