
Bayern Munich’s Guo Jiaxuan Dies from Head Injury at 19
Guo Jiaxuan, a promising Chinese footballer and former member of Bayern Munich’s World Squad, tragically passed away on March 19, 2025, just one day before his 19th birthday. The young athlete sustained a severe head injury during a training match in Spain on February 6, 2025, which led to a coma and, ultimately, his untimely death.
During the February training session between Beijing’s Under-20 team and Spanish side RC Alcobendas in Madrid, Guo collided with an opponent, resulting in a significant head injury. He was immediately hospitalized in Madrid, where medical assessments indicated a lack of brain function. Subsequently, Guo was transferred to the Beijing Tiantan Hospital in China for further care. Despite exhaustive medical efforts, he remained in a coma until his passing.
Guo’s football journey included participation in Bayern Munich’s World Squad project in 2023, an initiative designed to provide young talents worldwide with professional exposure. He also represented China’s Under-17 national team, showcasing his potential on international platforms.
In response to his passing, Bayern Munich released a statement expressing deep sorrow and extending condolences to Guo’s family and friends. Similarly, Beijing Guoan, his last affiliated club, conveyed profound grief and committed to supporting his family during this challenging period.
