Abba Yusuf’s Directive: Kano Aides Must Declare Assets
Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has directed all political appointees in his administration to declare their assets, in compliance with the Code of Conduct rules. He issued this directive during an Iftar (Ramadan breaking of fast) with heads of government agencies and special advisers at the Government House in Kano on Thursday, March 20, 2025.
Governor Yusuf noted that “60 to 70 per cent of the appointees” had yet to fulfill this requirement and urged them to promptly obtain, complete, and submit the necessary forms to ensure compliance with the law. He emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in public service, reflecting his administration’s commitment to these principles.
In addition to asset declaration, the governor addressed special advisers on the importance of providing counsel and submitting reports on governance matters. He encouraged them to actively monitor government affairs and offer advice, whether positive or critical.
This directive aligns with Governor Yusuf’s previous commitments to uphold transparency and accountability. In June 2023, he mandated that all commissioner nominees declare their assets before assuming office, reinforcing his administration’s dedication to ethical governance.
