In the early hours of March 30, 2025, a tragic single-vehicle accident in Lake County, Florida, resulted in the deaths of three women and left a fourth critically injured. The incident occurred around 3:16 a.m. on State Road 19, south of Saint Florian Lane. A 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by 30-year-old Shaykaylah Mathis of Mount Dora, veered off the roadway while navigating a left-hand curve, struck a pole, and overturned multiple times.

All four occupants were ejected from the vehicle, and none were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. Mathis and passengers Kaneisha Lewis, 32, and Aqutavia Pew, 28, both from Eustis, were pronounced dead at the scene. A 26-year-old female passenger, also from Eustis, was transported to a hospital in critical condition. The Florida Highway Patrol is conducting an ongoing investigation into the crash.

Prior to the accident, videos posted on social media platforms captured the women consuming alcohol and encouraging the driver to accelerate. In one such video, a passenger is heard shouting “Hit the dash!” as the vehicle’s speedometer reportedly reached 116 mph. These recordings have been widely circulated online, highlighting the dangers of impaired and reckless driving.

This heartbreaking incident serves as a stark reminder of the fatal consequences that can result from combining alcohol consumption with high-speed driving. It underscores the critical importance of responsible behavior behind the wheel and the need for all occupants to wear seat belts to enhance safety.
