56 Days Later: Gen. Tsiga’s Remarkable Freedom
Retired Brigadier General Maharazu Tsiga, former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has been released after 56 days in captivity. He was abducted on February 5, 2025, from his hometown of Tsiga in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State, along with nine other residents.
The kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of ₦250 million. After negotiations, an undisclosed amount was paid by his family. Despite the payment, the captors delayed his release for an additional week before allowing him to communicate with his family.
General Tsiga’s prolonged captivity highlights the ongoing security challenges in Nigeria’s North-West region, where kidnappings for ransom are prevalent. His release brings relief to his family and associates, who had been anxiously awaiting his return.
